Ifrane: Ifrane, The Little Switzerland of Morocco, is unlike any other town in North Africa. It is located at an elevation of 1,665 m (5,463 ft.), above sea level in the Middle Atlas region. It is a small resort town set high up in the mountains with a Swiss like ambiance. Ifrane serves as the winter playground for the wealthy Berbers from drier cites like Fez, Meknes, and Marrakech, who flock here to experience a European winter or to find relief from the summer heat. Ifrane is also a popular altitude-training destination as well. In 1995 Al Akhawayn University, an English-language, American-curriculum public university opened and this has helped re-launch Ifrane as a desirable destination for domestic tourism. Consequently, Ifrane continues to develop as both a summer and winter resort.

Azrou: Cèdre Gouraud, is a forest, in the woodland area, in the Middle Atlas Mountain Range in Morocco. The forest is truly remarkable and a complete contrast from the Sahara Desert. This beautified cedar forest is home to the endangered Barbary Apes, which are actually monkeys. Once you arrive you won’t have to look far to see the Barbary Apes, as they are not shy to come out of the forest to greet you. This will be good opportunity to take photos of the timberland in Morocco.

Jorf: Stop to see the old Canal of Irrigation. This area dates back to the 14th century and has provided water for towns and villages for several centuries. The underground aqueducts were designed to transport water slopes without active pumping. In the 1970’s diesel pumps were put in to use causing some of the aqueducts in this region to go dry. Recent studies concluded that the depth of the water table has dropped 50% over the past 40 years, which has affected the amount of date palm grown in the region.

Tinejdad: Visit a Berber village famous for its palms.

Kelaat M’Gouna is most known for the “Festival des Roses”; a festival that takes place in the city every year in May. There is a factory for the distillery of roses, and production of rose water (l’eau de rose) and essential oils, and cosmetic products.

Skoura: You will see the Kasbah Amridil, originally built in the 17th century, one of Morocco’s most iconic living museums. It has withstood the test of time, making it the ideal setting for an insight into the ancient traditions of Kasbah life. Here, you will be able to take a look at some tools that were used in the area generations ago, and some that are still used today in southern Morocco. After you’ve taken in the traditional ways of the Kasbah, make your way up the stairs to the top of the fortification to get a stunning view of the surrounding Skoura palm groves.

Your accommodations and dinner will be in your riad/hotel in Dades Gorges.
